sara truuvert
Hi, I’m Sara! I’m a Canadian writer, plant-killer, and aspiring bbq dad. Currently, I’m working on my first young adult novel. I also have a debut middle grade novel coming out THIS FALL!!
My short stories have appeared in publications like Ploughshares, the Chicago Quarterly Review, and Witness. One of my poems was featured in the Best Canadian Poetry 2025 anthology from Biblioasis. My debut picture book, Mira and Baku, was a Quill & Quire Book of the Year and a Canadian Children’s Book Centre Best Books for Kids & Teens starred selection.
Young Sara doing her thing.
I used to interview very cool and smart scientists and artists, and I wrote articles for the University of Toronto’s student newspaper. I was shortlisted for a John H. MacDonald Award for Humour Writing, which means I “didn’t win.”
I live in Ottawa with one man and zero pets.
Here’s the middle grade novel, Phoebe Ogawa and the Art of Not Caring. It’s about a girl who acts like she’s ready for combat, but on the inside is very much screaming crying throwing up. Aren’t we all. You can preorder it now!
And here’s the picture book, Mira and Baku, illustrated by the incredible Michelle Theodore. It’s about a girl who uses her imagination to cope with her father’s absence. (It’s a different vibe from the middle grade book and explores a pretty heavy historical topic.)
Sara now. Physically, I’ve lost the braces. Spiritually, I am unchanged.
